Tuning in Brooklyn

Brooklyn has a deep history with the piano, reaching back to the Golden Age of Pianos (1890–1920). When tuning pianos throughout Brooklyn’s neighborhoods, we at Slim Tunings love seeing that history on display. We regularly encounter instruments made for—and even built in—the borough, including makes such as Wissner, whose factory once stood on Atlantic Avenue near Franklin, as well as Bradbury and Leckerling.

Brooklyn is also home to countless remarkable heirloom instruments, including pianos by Steinway & Sons, Mason & Hamlin, Knabe, Charles Walter, and many more. These instruments reflect Brooklyn’s long history as a borough shaped by generations of musicians, families, and music lovers.
